Knowledge

Develop a solid knowledge of the main issues related to the design and operation of a chemical process plant, with particular emphasis to the steps that follow the  development of a project. Knowledge on methodologies of project management will be aquired together with  cost estimation, P&I and Flow Sheet definition tolls.  A final  project work on a specific plant from different process sectors will be executed and discussed

Prerequisites

Unit operations, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Design of chemical plant components, Safety & Reliability in Process Industry

Syllabus

INTRODUCTION TO PROCESS DESIGN : Nature of Design, The Anatomy of a Chemical Manufacturing Process. The Organization of a Chemical Engineering Project. Project Documentation. Codes and Standards. Project planning (Gantt- PERT tools) of design and realisation phases. Control and verification of the project. Commissioning and start up of the plant. Contractors and suppliers management

PROJECT MANAGEMENT: LEGAL AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:   The structure of legislation for process industry sector in EU. Integrated Authorisation and Permitting issues. Example of Legislation in Italy for different process industries. Mandatory and voluntary basis Standards and their applicability to Process Industry Sectors. ISO 14000 and OHSAS 18000 standards. HSE integrated management: cases studies in process industry
