Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course is expected to have acquired basic tools for subsurface stratigraphic analysis by using reflections seismic profiles and well logs.
He will be able to:
read a composite well log;
calibrate a seismic profile by using well logs;
identify the seismic facies present in a seismic profile and define the seismostratigraphic units;
construct chronostratigraphic diagrams from seismic profiles and interpret the seismic units in terms of sequence stratigraphy.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to illustrate with property of expression the experimental work carried out in the laboratory.
The written report concerns the seismic-stratigraphy interpretation of a selected area, usually an offshore area, with a well-explored and seismically well-recognizable stratigraphic sequence.
Methods:
- Final oral exam
- Final laboratory practical demonstration
- Written report
Teaching methods
Delivery: face to face
Learning activities:
- attending lectures
- preparation of oral/written report
