Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who completes the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the main processes of growth and development of the International and Italian economy from the Industrial Revolution to the present day. He or she will be able to look critically at historiograhpical interpretations of the economic history development of the European economy and will have demonstrated the ability to define a (circumscribed) historigraphical problem, approach it and present the results in a structured way.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology.

Syllabus
The course focuses the main phases of the historical-economic development of Italian economy in the International context from the Industrial Revolution to the present day. The course is structured as follows: the first part will be addressed to analyse and provide a general framework of the European economic history from the Industrial Revolution to the globalisation era. Particular attention will be paid to the main steps of the historical-economic development of Europe, such as the English Industrial revolution, the industrialization of first comers and second comers, cause and effect of the first and second World War and Great Depression of 1929 and recently the outbreak of the international economic crisis of 2008. The second part will be dedicated to examine the main features of the Italian economic history from the take off at the end of XIXth century, to the effects of the IIWW, until the economic downturn.
