Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the main variables of the financial markets, of their interactions and the factors which influence them. He/she will be able to understand central bank monetary decisions and their influences on the financial and real markets.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with the appropriate terminology.

Syllabus
What is money and its functions. Theory of demand for money (classical, keynesian, portfolio theory, monetarist theory).
Supply of money (Central banks instruments and objectives).
The role of money in a IS-LM model and in a monetarist model.
Transmission mechanism of monetary policy.
Policies to fight inflation and to stimulate growth.
