Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will have the ability to: . frame the basics of the human health effects of indoor and outdoor air pollutants, of electromagnetic fields and ionizing radiation, of main occupational pollutants, of urban solid wastes, as well as to get the basic health care vocabulary; . recognize the major epidemiological study designs; . understand and evaluate a scientific publication in the field of environmental epidemiology; . read and interpret the risk cards of chronic respiratory diseases and lung cancer.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course matters thoughtfully and with propriety of language expression.

Syllabus
To provide the medical vocabulary (basic anatomy, physiology, immunology) needed to understand the description of environmental epidemiology studies. To illustrate the basic knowledge of the environmental epidemiology methods. To provide aspects of the health damages caused by the exposure to: outdoor and indoor pollutants, electromagnetic waves, ionizing radiations, occupational pollutants and urban solid wastes.

Work placement
Research fellowship availabilities within the National Research Council are indicated to the students who decide to write their dissertation on the Course matters. The acquired knowledge will be useful for fulfilling the job description requirements of work safety experts within private companies, as well as of environmental health advisor within the Publica Administration (e.g. Municipalities, Environmental Protection Agency, etc)..
