Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the latest contributions of cognitive neuroscience and behavioral genetics to the concept of free-will and the evaluation of mental insanity for forensic purposes. Also, he she will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of neuroscientific evidence with respect to antisocial and violent behavior, and its relevance for evaluating criminal responsibility.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. In the written exam the student must demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and to organize an effective and correctly written reply.

Syllabus
The course covers the following topics: psychopathology and the law in history, psychiatric evaluation of the defendant, the victim and the witness, contributions of the neuroscience and behavioural genetics to notion of free-will and imputability, responsibility and deontology in forensic psychiatry.
