Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who completes the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the main issues related to the oral surgery. He or she will acquire knowledge of systems and technologies of advanced preprosthetic surgery and contemporary implant dentistry. He or she will be able to analyze correlate the principles of diagnosis, etiology, and therapy of the main surgical diseases. Lastly, he or she will be aware of modern surgical instruments, surgical approaches and surgical technique.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
- The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. - During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression. - The student's ability to explain correctly the main topics presented during the course at the board will be assessed. - The student must demonstrate the ability to put into practice and to execute, with critical awareness, the activities illustrated or carried out under the guidance of the teacher during the course.

Syllabus
The course provides notions on the main surgical procedures, as well as basic preprosthetic surgery, advanced preprosthetic surgery, odontogenic diseases of the maxillary sinus, surgical reconstruction of defects of the jaws and contemporary implant dentistry. The course also approaches the main issues related to diagnosis, etiology and epidemiology of the surgical diseases. The second part of the course focuses on the modern surgical instruments, covering the processing methods and their using principles. Lastly, some issues related to the different kinds and management of the regenerative materials such as Platelet-Rich-Plasma(PRP) and Decalcified Freeze-Dried Bone Allograf(DFDBA)

Work placement
The work placement consist of 16 hours (2 CFU) of attendance in the operating surgical room. The student will assist the surgeon in many different surgical procedures.
