Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the most important principles of Roman private law in the following matters: person and family law, succession law, property and in rem-rights law, obligation and tort law, commercial law and civil process law. This knowledge will help students to understand many historical roots of the modern civil law of civil law countries.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her Knowledge and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression

Syllabus
The course covers the most important principles of Roman private law from the origins (VIIIth century B.C.) to Justinian's era (middle of the VIth century A.D.). Particular attention will be paid to the historical evolution of person and family law, succession law, obligation and tort law, property law, commercial law and civil process law.
