Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will have the ability to organize a Rehabilitation plan for patients with mental illness. In order to reach this target, the student should demonstrate a good knowledge of patient's deficit and handicap, and an evaluation of the environment variables on illness course. The student should demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the most commonly used Rehabilitation techniques. He/she will learn the most advanced theories on the bio-psychosocial factors that can negatively impact on the most important areas of functioning.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. - During the oral examination the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression. - The student's ability to explain correctly the main topics presented during the course at the board will be assessed. - The student must demonstrate the ability to put into practice and to execute, with critical awareness, the activities illustrated or carried out under the guidance of the teacher during the course.

Syllabus
The course provides notions on the cognitive, social and coping deficits of psychiatric patients, and the processes and its causes (biological, social, personology and pharmacological). The course summarizes the most important theories on potential factors of psychosocial deficit. The management of deficits are crucial, with particular emphasis on psycho-educational interventions, social skill training, maternal, and work placement. The second part of the course is focused on the management of patient's practical problems, with a a tailored program planning. Finally, some issues related to relationships with family and environment are discussed.
