Learning outcomes
Knowledge
Students are expected to acquire some knowledge of the main tools used in neurobiological research. The student who completes the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of cellular and molecular methods as well as of recent techniques suitable for investigation of functional aspects of the whole brain.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology.

Syllabus
Optical contrast microscopies. Fluorescence confocal microscopy. Calcium and c-AMP imaging. Scanning probe microscopies. Patch-clamp techniques used to study function and modulation of single ion channels. Tools to study the role of chemical and physical cues in the navigation of the neuronal growth cones. Optogenetics. Use of Nanostructures and Nanotechnologies in Neurosciences. Lab-on-chip Systems. Positron Emission Tomography. Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
