The student will be aware of the clinical meaning and usefulness of the main routine blood and urine tests, and their normal/critical ranges, and will study a range of clinical biochemistry topics integrated to laboratory practice, as well as covering current and new technologies and contemporary issues within the discipline. Students will also gain an understanding of the principles and components of instrumentation, laboratory calculations, quality assurance and statistics relevant to the medical laboratory.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression. The student must demonstrate the ability to put into practice and to execute, with critical awareness, the activities illustrated or carried out under the guidance of the teacher during the course.

Methods:

  • Final oral exam
  • Oral report

Further information:
The final mark will 100% be related to the oral exam and to the preparation/performance of the oral report on distinct topics of Laboratory Medicine.
