Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who completes the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the economic, social and cultural aspects of the consumption practices in the Western societies during the XIXth and XXIth centuries. He or she will be able to illustrate with appropriate analytical tools the main phases and features of the evolution of consumptions in the Western economies.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression.

Syllabus
The course analyzes the evolution of consumptions and lifestyles in the Western societies from the beginning of the Industrial Revolution to the contemporary age. The course is structured as follows: a keynote section dedicated to the analysis of the main theorical approaches and historiographical strands about consumption, a second section addressed to the diachronic analysis of the development and changes of the consumption activities-practices, and finally a monographic section. devoted to the changes of fashion consumer behavior in Italy in the XXth and XXI centuries.
