Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to:
- understand what entrepreneurship is and how it differs from ongoing management of a small business;
- identify the characteristics and motivations of entrepreneurs;
- analyze and describe the process of creation, growth and development of smes
- distinguish between the concept of quantitative and qualitative growth/development;
- analyze sme's organizational characteristics
- analyze peculiarity of HRM in small business
- analyze some main issues of sme innovation networks
- analyze the peculiarity of family smes and some key aspects of their succession passage
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam, the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and to be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully, with critical awarness and using the appropriate terminology

Syllabus
This course will focus on organizational aspects (characteristics, main issues, open challenges etc.) of small and medium businesses. We will generally define small and medium business, for purposes of this course, to
be geographically local, have fewer than 250 employees, and where one or a few
individuals provide initial financing. The course will focus on strat-up, entrepreneur's motivation, organizational life cycle, organizational peculiarity and HRM policies of sme; innovation sme networks.
