Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demostrate advanced knowledge of the institutions and the rules of production and trade of food . A specific objective of the course is to share the analysis of indications from the legislation and the case law concerning the protection of the rights of consumer safety and food quality and correct information, and the rights of enterpreneurs in the agro-food sector to competition on the market under conditions of fair competition.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression.

Syllabus
The course cover the genesis and the evolution of food law at national, european and international level from the point of vue of food safety and of the agri-food market. Also right to food and food security is examined. In the first part of the course is dedicate to the evolution of European Community policy for food safety through legislation on products and production processes; Legislation on food and feed igyene; Legislation on additives, colorings, flavorings, etc..; Legislation on novel foods , GM foods, organic foods. The second part of the course is dedicated to market legislation: the protection of the consumer's right to an informed choice throught labelling and advertising and the protection of producers; competition and trademark ; quality brands.
