Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who completes the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the main psychiatric disorders of the evolutive age, with particular attention to the clinical features that characterized childhood and adolescence. He or she will acquire knowledge of the new DSM-5 criteria, the theoretical background of psychiatric disorders, and their pathophysiology. He or she will be able to understand how each psychiatric disorder differs from other psychiatric disorders. Lastly, he or she will be aware of current therapeutic approaches.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main psychiatric disorders of the evolutive age, with particular attention to the clinical features that characterized childhood and adolescence. In the written exam (1 and 1/2 hours), the student must demonstrate knowledge of the new DSM-5 criteria, the theoretical background of psychiatric disorders, and their pathophysiology. The student's ability to understand how each psychiatric disorder differs from other psychiatric disorders will be assessed. The student must demonstrate the awareness of current therapeutic approaches using the appropriate terminology.

Syllabus
The course provides notions on the main psychiatric disorders in the evolutive age, including autism spectrum disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Feeding and Eating Disorders. The course also approaches the main issues related to different clinical expression of the same disorder, with particular emphasis on early detection and early treatment of psychiatric disorders of the evolutive age. Lastly, the structural and functional brain correlates of the psychiatric disorders are presented and discussed.
