Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will have a practical knowledge of the different hygiene protocols related to patients with systemic disease and with fixed and removable prosthesis, with dental implants and patients that underwent oral surgical procedures. The student will be able to use the most advanced methods of communication with the patients in order to achieve the highest compliance and to perform excellent oral hygiene treatments. The student will have the ability to perform scaling and root planing on patients affected by periodontal disease.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her demostrated ability to perform the main course contenents using the appropriate methodology
The student's ability to explain correctly the main topics presented during the course at the board will be assessed and his practical skills evaluated

Syllabus
The intership provides practical aspects on the main aspects of post surgical dental hygiene protocols. In addition dedicated oral hygiene protocols for patients with orthodontic appliances and dental implants will be eavualted.
Particular attention is spent on operative dental hygiene protocols for patients affected by metabolic disease, cardiovascular disease, drug addiction ( smoke and alcohol heavy consumption) and oncologic disease.
The internship will assist surgical and non surgical periodontal treatments and will manage the periodontal follow up
