Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who completes the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge in Biochemistry starting from basic principles of general biochemistry to main metabolic pathways. In this regard the student will be able to correlate the knowledge of general features of proteins and enzymes with their cellular function, regulation and location in the cell or organs.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss different subjects using the appropriate terminology.

Further information:
For the exam, the student is called to give answers to 10 questions on different arguments developed in the course at the best of his knowledge. Questions are related to biomolecule structures, biological processes, metabolic pathways and analysis of interpretative models of cell functions. Occasionally the final evaluation may require a colloquium.

Basic features of the living cell; elements of molecular biology; features and properties of relevant biomolecules; basic knowledge in protein structure and function; basic principles of enzyme kinetics and enzyme regulation; anabolism and catabolism; glycolysis and gluconeogenesis; pentose phospates shunt;glycogen homeostasis; Krebs cycle; general aspects of electrons transport and oxidative phosphorylation.
