Storia, teoria e tecnica della sceneggiatura, come testo performativo e narrativo.
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of cinema screenplay, in particular for what concerns its perfomative quality (screenplay previewing the movie), and for what concerns dramatic and narrative issues. The student will also be able to face the main problems regarding film adaptation. At the end of the course, s/he will have the ability to analyse the narrative structure of screenplays and movies, and will also be able to conceive and write the subject and/or the screenplay of a movie.

The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. The student must also demonstrate the ability to put into practice and to execute, with critical awareness, the activities illustrated or carried out under the guidance of the teacher during the course.

Lo studente dovrà acquisire la capacità di leggere e interpretare un testo-sceneggiatura, relativamente alle sue strutture narrative e alle sue funzioni performative, di prefigurazione del film e direzione della sua realizzazione tecnica.
Le lezioni saranno concepite in forma seminariale e si realizzeranno letture "operative" di pagine di sceneggiatura con commenti e discussione.
Lo studente dovrà essere in grado di leggere operativamente un testo-sceneggiatura distinguendo strutture narrative e funzioni performative proposte
Gli studenti durante le lezioni e l'esame finale si cimenteranno in prove di letture e analisi di pagine di sceneggiatura.
Si richiede una solida conoscenza della storia del cinema mondiale e delle forme del linguaggio cinematografico.

Teaching methods:
The course covers the description and analysis of the main dramatic and narrative forms developed across the history of cinema, and of the main screenplay models. The narrative structure of some exemplary movies will be analysed. A part of the course will be dedicated to a general study of the relationship between cinema and literature, and to the analysis of some significative film adaptations. The final part of this course will be dedicated to conceiving and writing a film subject from a short story. Some scenes from such a subject will be scripted in details.
