Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of tools, forms and disciplines of law applicable to public intervention in the economy, in the context of the renewed relationship between State and market, also in the light of European law. He or she will have the ability to interpret the rules that limit private economic initiative and the rules about state aid. Finally, students will be able to reconstruct the regulatory framework applicable in Italy to companies participated by local authorities, following the so-called spending review.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology.

Syllabus
The course provides notions on administrative organitation for regulation or supervision of markets, with particular reference to independent administrative Authorities. In this regard, we will focus on the role played by the competition Authority, both with reference to the "typical" antitrust powers, both in relation to the powers to regulate markets. Then, we will examine the rules on the limits to private economic initiative for the protection of public interests paramount, both through programs of government aid to productive activities. The latter issue will allow to examine the legal framework of public finance. Finally, will analyse the definition, meaning and legal discipline of public service companies, often participated by local authorities.
