Knowledge
Students are expected to:
– acquire the fundamental notions of the classical theory of linear elasticity;
– develop the capability to analyze the mechanical behavior of structures that can be modeled as systems of elastic beams;
– develop the ability to analyze the mechanical behavior of solid bodies modeled as elastically deformable continuous bodies;
– develop an understanding of the two failure modes for the elastic behavior of structures: the first due to the occurrence of inelastic deformations,with increasing external loads, the second resulting from the onset of instabilities affecting the equilibrium.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology.
In the written exam, the student must demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and to organize an effective and correctly written reply.
The student must demonstrate the ability to put into practice the fundamentals illustrated in the lectures and to solve the problems proposed by the instructor.
