Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will have the ability to critically understand the historical dimension and evolution of economics from the origins to nowadays. This will provide students with a more critical approach to contemporary economics, understanding the alternative methods that are available, the strengths and weaknesses of certain parts of the economic theory, the social and institutional dimension of the economic science. The student will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of economics from the origins to the interwar period. Among the Typical transferable skills acquired thorugh this course there are the following: 1. a critical use of online and library resources for the study of the economic literature; 2. an ability to create bibliographic databases; 3. an ability to edit digital books; 4. skills for textual interpretation of economic texts and their translations.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to understand, on the one hand, the general historical evolution of economic theories, and, on the other hand, the social dimension of the institutionalisation and dissemination of economics, as revealed by the translations of economic texts and their contexts. In the case of full-time attending students, an important criterion of evaluation will be their ability to collect from different sources and authonomously organise an original profile encompassing an understanding of the contents of an original text of economics of the 18th, 19th or 20th century, of the authors profile and context of writing, and of the whole intellectual and institutional context of the translation into another language. Another criterion of assessment will consist in the evaluation of the transferable skills above mentioned, including ability to deal with bibliographical database, digitalise texts, and produce educational materials

Further information:
a) For full-time students attending classes, the evaluation of fulfilment of course goals is based on in-class group work. Evaluation is both quantitative and qualitative, based on production of lab materials and their quality in terms of accuracy, profundity and pertinence of reconstruction and interpretation. The following are the deliverables on which assessment will be made: 3 database entries: 20% 1 guide (or 2 guides in groups of 2, 3 guides in groups of 3, etc.): 80% b) For students who are not able to attend classes, there will be a final written exam based on short essays and questionnaires. The criteria of evaluation are: -general knowledge of the history of economic thought 50% -knowledge of the institutionalisation and dissemination of political economy in Italy 50% An oral exam is optional on students' request.

Syllabus
The aim of this course is to guide students to understand the main guidelines and problems of the history of economics from the 18th century to nowadays through interactive learning and contribution to the online platform "EE-T". The EE-T online platform is devoted to translations of classics and textbooks of economics from one language to another, and contains a bibliographical database, some e-texts, guides, video-lectures, and other features. Through a direct and interactive approach to the study of economic translations, students will learn to understand the nature of the economic science, its evolution, its methods, and its relationships with other social and humanistic sciences, such as moral philosophy, political philosophy, law, sociology, etc.

Recommended reading includes the following: 1. G. Pavanelli, Valore, distribuzione e moneta. Un profilo di storia del pensiero economico, Milano, Franco Angeli. 2. M.M. Augello, M.E.L. Guidi (a cura di), L’economia divulgata (1840-1922). Stili e percorsi italiani, vol. 1, Manuali e trattati, Franco Angeli, Milano, 2007. These books are mandatory for those who cannot attend classes.
