Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will have the ability to use the main online resources at a local, national and international level, in order to conduct effective bibliographical searches. He or she will be aware of the existence of the most important bibliographical databases and catalogs, both general and specialized in history of art and cultural heritage disciplines. He or she will be able to read and understand bibliographical quotations in order to correctly identify different bibliographical materials and to compile a bibliography on a specific topic or subject.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
With laboratory practical, periodic written tests and the final practical demonstration the student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to use different tools for bibliographical search. In particular, the student must demonstrate his/her knowledge of the main catalogs and his/her ability to use them in order to recover bibliographical information.

Syllabus
After introducing to the student the University of Pisa Libraries System and, in particular, the History of the arts Library, a first part of the course will be devoted to explain bibliographical quotation and to illustrate the tools for the bibliographical search: bibliographies, bibliographical databases and catalogs. A second important section of the laboratory will be devoted to show the main Italian and international catalogs, with particular attention to those catalogs which are specialized in the history of art and the cultural heritage studies. As a conclusive part of the course, the student will be given a review of Internet sites and other available informative resources, concerning the cultural heritage.
