Knowledge
The student who completes the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the main issues related to the organic industrial chemical processes with particular attention to the steps that follow the primary production. The objective of this course is to quantitatively study the chemical and engineering principles involved in the creation and operation of viable industrial processes.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. - During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression.

Syllabus
This course covers the main aspects of applied chemistry in a context especially designed for chemical engineers with specific reference to organic chemistry and petro-chemistry. Key organic chemistry reactions will be illustrated to assist understanding the processes taking place in the industrial production of chemicals. We cover important petrochemical reactions starting from the refinery of oil to the production of some main chemicals in industry including the synthesis of polymers.
