Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the main neurological and psychiatric disorders occurring in children and adolescents having an impact on language and communication development. He/she will also acquire the main information related to the rehabilitation procedures available for these disorders. The student will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of main linguistic theories and levels of language analysis (phonetic, phonological, morphological, syntactic, semantic, pragmatic). The student who successfully completes the course will have the ability to analyse samples of linguistic utterances at various levels and to recognize and classify errors due to the main language disorders.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
In the written exam the student must demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and to organise an effective and correctly written reply

Syllabus
Classification and prevalence of the main neurological disorders in childhood and adolescents (cerebral palsy, epilepsy, movement disorders, neuromuscular disorders, intellectual disability, language delay, autism, deafness associated with other disorders and others). Importance and methods of rehabilitation in children. Introduction to general linguistics: main linguistic theories (structuralism, generativism, speech acts, implicatures); levels of language analysis (phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics).
