Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the theoretical development of money and financial theory after World War II. He or she will be able to spot the differences between the main theories and a clear awareness of the most important criticisms to the standard financial theoretical approach
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression. In the written exam (90 minutes, choice of 2 essay questions), the student must demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and to organise an effective and correctly written reply.

Syllabus
The course covers the development of monetary and financial theory from Keynes to Minsky, reading directly the authors’ works. A strong attention is paid to the difference between Keynesian and monetarists approach. The final part of the course is dedicated to the analysis of Mandelbrot’s criticism to standard financial theore theory.
