Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be aware of the prominent issues discussed in the bioethics domain; will have developed a specific methodological approach to these issues, which are presented from a legal point of view, and will be able to confront the problems and solutions provided against a background of general principles and categories pertaining to private law.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology.

Syllabus
The course focuses on the study of the bioethical issues adopting a legal perspective and concentrates on the following sets of problems: - private law and bioethics: methodological aspects, sources of law and the boundaries of regulation - the person at the beginning and end-of-life, the notions of legal capacity and subjectivity; - the body and the legal acts related to the body and the body parts; - assisted reproduction and family law; - biotechnologies and patentability of living organisms; - conflicts in bioethics and tort law.
