Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who completes the course will be able to analyze the geographical character of a particular landscape and develop simple enhancement projects of historic landscapes and environmental rehabilitation of degraded urban areas. The student will be able to formulate design proposals that are able to enhance local identities and proposing measures to enhance multi-functional open spaces.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be evaluated on his / her ability to make an accurate analysis of landscape, both in content and in the representation using the appropriate terminology. Moreover the student will be evaluated for his / her ability to develop one design proposal that will enhance local identities, the fruition and accessibility of the chosen area.

Preparation of a digital atlas (slideshow) landscape of a geographical area chosen by the student. Preparation of drawings (masterplan)

Syllabus
Notions for the analysis of landscape: geological features and vegetation, the rural areas, settlements and their rules of localization. Tools for the analysis and representation of the landscape. Study of landscape change through historical cartographic documents. Urban and landscape planning in Italy. Projects landscape enhancement of cultural landscapes: case histories. Enhancement projects in peri-urban open spaces: case histories. Projects environmental recovery of degraded urban areas: case histories. Tools for landscape design.
