Learning outcomes
Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the foundamental features regarding the gastrointestinal tract and its related organs. In particular, there will be deepened the epidemiological, ethiological and clinical features of the different diseases related with the oral cavity. The student will have the ability to adopt compliant preventive strategies through the use of nutritional principles coming from the knowledge of diet foundamentals. The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the foundamental features regarding the hematological diseases to adopt the best dental management, early preventing possible hematological complications. The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the foundamental anesthetic bases related with the first assistance of the dental patient.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression.

Syllabus
Pathology of gastrointestinal tract, liver and pancreas; its correlation with the oral and dental diseases (gastroesophageal reflux, malabsorbtion, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel diseases, gastritis and Helicobacter pylori, acute and chronic pancreatitis, cirrhosis). Main hematologoical diseases (anemia, lymphoma, leukemia, pathology of coagulation). Main anesthetic foundamentals for the first assistance and the management of the complications.
