Contenuti
The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of cellular and molecular organization of the main groups of Eubacteria and Archea, Virus and Yeast; will be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge of microbial physiology, nutrient assumption, nutritional types, growth, nutrition and metabolism, growth kinetics of micro-organisms and environmental conditions affecting the growth yield; will be aware of basic methods for genetic recombination and for identification of virulence/pathogenicity factors of microorganisms and how they interact with the host; will have the ability to isolate and to identify microorganisms and to evaluate their susceptibility to anti-microbial drugs.
Lo studente
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. - The student must demonstrate the ability to put into practice and to execute, with critical awareness, the activities illustrated or carried out under the guidance of the teacher during the course.
Methods:

Attendance: Not mandatory
Teaching methods:
In-depth study of cellular organization of micro-organisms. Microbial growth and conditions influencing the yield, survival, and the behavioral-daptive response of micro-organisms to their growth environments, the colonized host included. Basic knowledge of virology and micology. Gene transfer, recombination and global regulation of cell functions. Mechanisms of microbial virulence and host-parasite interaction.
Laboratory: practice to perform micro-organism isolation, identification and evaluation of susceptibility to antimicrobials.
