Il corso di "Filologia iranica" si propone di fornire agli studenti i principi metodologici e gli strumenti necessari allo studio e alla piena comprensione dell’area linguistica iranica in generale, e di quella sogdiana in particolare.
The course "Iranian Philology" is aimed at providing students with the main methodological principles and tools for the study and for a comprehensive understanding of the Iranian linguistic area in general, and that of the Sogdian language in particular.

-Saper orientarsi nell’apprendimento dell’area linguistica iranica avendo fatti propri i principi della linguistica indoeuropea nonché areale e di contatto.
-Saper spiegare un testo sogdiano negli aspetti linguistici, grafici, materiali e storico-culturali.
-Orientation in the Iranian linguistic area, taking into account the principles of the Indo-European linguistics and of areal and contact linguistics.
-Capacity to understand and discuss a Sogdian text by analysing the main linguistic, graphic, material and cultural-historical features.

-Presentazione dell’area linguistica iranica nello spazio e nel tempo. Le linee guida saranno quelle della linguistica indoeuropea ma fin da principio verranno fatte presenti le istanze proprie della linguistica areale e di contatto. Un simile approccio tiene conto del profondo multilinguismo che dall’altopiano iranico all’Asia centrale, dall’antichità alla contemporaneità, ha sempre contraddistinto tale area linguistica.
-Descrizione della lingua e della documentazione sogdiana.
-Lettura di due tipologie di testi sogdiani. La prima consiste in testi di 8 sec. provenienti dalla Sogdiana (Uzbekistan-Tagikistan) e di fondamentale importanza per la storia di questa regione al tempo della conquista araba. La seconda tipologia consiste in testi sogdiani cristiani di 9-11 sec. provenienti dallo Xinjiang (Cina) e riconducibili alle attività missionarie della Chiesa d’Oriente lungo la via della seta.
-General introduction to the Iranian linguistic area through space and time. The guidelines are those of Indo-European linguistics, but from the beginning the principles of the areal and contact linguistics will be taken into account as well. This approach takes into consideration the widespread multilingualism that has always played a fundamental role within the Iranian linguistic area, from the Iranian plateau to Central Asia, from Antiquity to the present day.
-Outline of the Sogdian language and documentation.
-Readings of two kinds of Sogdian texts. The first one consists of texts from 8th century Sogdiana (Uzbekistan- Tajikistan) which are extremely important for the history of this region at the time of the Arab conquest. The second kind of text consists of Christian Sogdian manuscript fragments (9th – 11th) from Xinjiang (China) which throw light on the missionary activities of the Church of the East along the Silk road.
