Knowledge
The student who completes the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge and understanding of the historical background of the field, the major psychological theories, the basic findings and concepts within a variety of areas of psychology, the concept of measurement of psychological phenomena, the logic of scientific hypothesis testing, and the main methods for data analysis in social sciences. He or she will have the ability to critically compare different theoretical and methodological approaches to behavior and to correctly interpret results from statistical analyses. She or he will be also able to demonstrate active learning and transferable skills (e.g. study and information retrieval skills and communication and group-work skills), and will be aware of the applications and implications of psychological theories and research.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
In the written exam (2-3 hours, both open and multiple choice questions), the student must demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and to organise an effective and correctly written reply.

Syllabus
The first part of the course traces an overview of the main periods in the history of psychology and the major theoretical models to understanding human behavior. It also covers concepts and research findings around broad psychological areas, including perception, memory, learning, reasoning, intelligence, motivation, emotion, and personality. The second part of the course focuses on measurement of psychological phenomena, features of research methods in psychology, and the use of statistical analysis in the field of psychology.
