Knowledge
The student who successfully completes the course will have the ability to synthesize, purify and characterize an acrylic copolymer. The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge of main polymer commodities synthetic methods, industrial processes, industrial plants production.
Assessment criteria of knowledge
The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology.
The student must demonstrate the ability to put into practice and to execute, with critical awareness, the activitiescarried out under the guidance of the teacher during the laboratory.

Syllabus
Polyolefin syntheses, Ziegler-Natta Catalysis, Metallocene Catalysts. Polyethylene Industrial Production, Polypropylene Industrial Production, Butadiene Polymers: anionic polymerization, Ziegler-Natta catalysis. Eterogeneous Radical Polymerization: colloids, surfactants, emulsions polymerization mechanism, suspension polymerization Polyvinylchloride Industrial processes: bulk polymerization, suspension polymerization, emulsion polymerization. Acrylic and methacrylic polymers industrial processes. Standard test for polymeric materials. Flame retardancy for polymeric materials: inorganic and halogen free. Photochemical, thermal and mechanical degradation of polymers, HALS aditives for polyolefin.
