The student who successfully completes the course will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge in the basic principles of Physical Chemistry, to be used to understand a number of phenomena which have important effects on the environment. Besides a general description of such phenomena, the student will be guided in a deep comphrension of the physical reasons which originate them.
During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and of the main concept of Physical Chemistry.
Methods:
Delivery: face to face
Learning activities:
Attendance: Advised
Teaching methods:
Basic principles of Physical Chemistry. Statistical behaviour of matter. First, second and third principle of thermodynamics. Free Energy concept. Main thermodynamics processes. Thermochemistry and energy production. Phase transition, mixtures, chemical equilibrium. Chemical kinetics, electromagnetic radiation, photochemical reactions. Basic nuclear physics. Atmosphere pollution, greenhouse effect and climate change, ozone depletion, problems related to nuclear energy production.
