Il corso intende affrontare criticamente i principali eventi e i più dibattuti problemi storiografici che hanno riguardato i secoli XIX e XX. Le grandi trasformazioni dell'età contemporanea saranno affrontate con una particolare attenzione alla nascita della società di massa e ai processi di massificazione, all'emergere dei movimenti sociali e politici e all'intensificarsi delle relazioni internazionali. Lo sviluppo dei mezzi di comunicazione, la centralità dei modelli visivi, le nuove forme di propaganda e di comunicazione politica saranno oggetto di specifici approfondimenti grazie anche all'uso degli archivi multimediali.
The course aims to engage critically with the major events and the most debated historiographical problems which have affected the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The great transformations of the contemporary age will be addressed with particular attention to the emergence of mass society and standardization processes, the emergence of social and political movements and the intensification of international relations. The development of the media, the centrality of visual models, new forms of propaganda and political communication will be the subject of specific insights thanks to the use of multimedia archives.

Il corso ha inizio lunedì 19 febbraio, presso l'aula Chim-1 (via Risorgimento). L'orario del corso è il seguente: lunedì, martedì e mercoledì dalle 8,30 alle 10,00.
