Lo studente potrà acquisire conoscenze relative al problema della concettualizzazione del cambiamento con particolare riguardo al dibattito che nel corso del Settecento si sviluppò sui benefici del commercio e della modernizzazione in relazione alle Storie del Commercio
Students will be able to acquire an understanding of the issue of the birth of the modern commercial society, with particular regard to the process known as modernisation and to the debate that developed during the eighteenth century in relation to the Histories of commerce
Per l'accertamento delle conoscenze verranno svolte delle prove orali e scritte in itinere, oltre al seminario che personalmemte ciascuno studente sarà chiamato a tenere sulla base delle scelte individuali e sotto la supervisione della professoressa.
To assess knowledge ongoing oral and written tests will be carried out in addition to the seminar that each student will personally be required to deliver on the basis of individual choices and under the supervision of the professor
Lo studente sarà in grado di svolgere una ricerca autonoma sul problema della modernizzazione ed un'analisi critica delle fonti; inoltre sarà in grado di presentare in una relazione scritta ed in una esposizione orale i risultati dell'attività svolta durante il corso
Students will be able to conduct independent research on the problem of modernisation and to make a critical analysis of the sources. They will be expected to present the results of the work undertaken during the course in a written report and in an oral presentation.
Lo studente dovrà preparare una relazione scritta, e presentarla oralmente, sui risultati ottenuti dall'analisi critica della bibliografia e dei testi a lui assegnati.
Students will be required to prepare a written report, to be presented orally, on the results obtained from the critical analysis of the bibliography and texts assigned to them.
Lo studente potrà acquisire metodo critico e sviluppare autonoma capacità di contestualizzazione dei fenomeni storici oggetto d'analisi.
The student will be able to acquire a critical methodology and develop the ability to contextualise independently the historical phenomena under analysis.
La capacità critica e contestualizzante sarà verificata nel corso delle attività seminariali durante le quali gli studenti esporranno gli argomenti scelti sotto la guida della professoressa.

Affinché lo studente possa frequentare proficuamente il corso, è utile che lo stesso padroneggi la tematica della nascita dello stato moderno e che abbia conoscenza della problematica del mercantilismo e libero scambismo.
In order for the students to take the course successfully, it will be useful to gain a thorough understanding the subject of the birth of the modern society and to understand the issue of mercantilism and liberalism.

Il corso prevede lo svolgimento di lezioni frontali, con ausilio di power point e di proiezione di testi, e lo svolgimento di seminari affidati ai singoli studenti organizzati in gruppi sotto la direzione della professoressa che fornirà precise indicazioni sui siti web da cui scaricare i testi oggetto di analisi, sia nel corso delle lezioni sia nei tre giorni in cui riceverà gli studenti; poiché i testi oggetto del corso saranno presentati in lingua originale, verranno utilizzate lingue diverse dall'italiano.
The course will include lectures with PowerPoint slides and projected texts, and seminars led by individual students organised in groups under the direction of the professor. The professor will inform the students of the websites from which to download the texts under analysis, both during lectures and in the three days in which she will be available to meet with them. Since the course texts will be presented in their original form, languages other than Italian will be used.
Le Storie del Commercio come prisma della storia europea
Il corso esamina, attraverso lo studio di alcune delle più significative "Storie del commercio" pubblicate nel corso del Settecento, la percezione che i contemporanei ebbero delle trasformazioni che la società europea stava conoscendo e che l'odierna storiografia descrive come "moderna società commerciale". Lo studio di questi cambiamenti, che investirono l'economia, la società e la cultura, e delle relative concettualizzazioni sarà affrontato analizzando le "Storie del commercio" pubblicate in Francia, in Gran Bretagna e negli antichi stati italiani.
The "Histories of commerce" as a prism of the European history
The course examines the conceptualization that the Eighteenth century administrators, diplomats and litterati were able to elaborate reacting to the changes that the society experienced and that the modern historiography labels as "commercial society "". The analysis of the most significant Histories of commerce printed during the eighteenth century in France, Great Britain and in the Italian Ancient States enlightens the changes occurred in the economy, society and culture during the long Eighteenth century.

Il programma d'esame dovrà essere concordato con il docente che mette a disposizione tre ore settimanali di ricevimento anche per far fronte a questa esigenza
The examination programme must be agreed with the professor, who will set aside three hours per week to receive students for this purpose
La prova orale consiste in un colloquio tra il candidato e il docente, durante il quale lo studente dovrà dimostrare di saper riferire sul mercantilismo e sul liberalismo e sulla Jealousy of trade, di saper commentare e contestualizzare le Storie del commercio esaminate nel corso;
la durata media del colloquio è circa di 40 minuti;
la prova orale non è superata se il candidato mostra di non essere in grado di esprimersi in modo chiaro e di usare i concetti di mercantilismo e di liberalismo in maniera critica; se il candidato non sarà in grado di mettere in relazione quanto proposto dall'analisi della bibliografia con quella dei testi esaminati.
Per presentarsi all'esame è importante aver svolto l'attività seminariale concordata con la docente.
The oral test consists of conversation between the candidate and professor, during which the student must demonstrate an ability to discuss the concept of mercantilism, liberalism and jealousy of trade and demonstrate an ability to contextualise the Hisrories of commerce examinded during the seminars
The conversation usually lasts about 40 minutes.
Candidates will not pass the oral examination if they are not able to express themselves clearly and to use and apply the concepts of the reference bibliography, or if they are unable to relate the contents of the textbook to the bibliography.
In order to take the examination, students must have carried out the self-assessment work conducted under the supervision of the professor.
