Il corso ha lo scopo di fornire la conoscenza delle malattie mediche di tipo internistico. La conoscenza della malattia presuppone di conoscere:
The Integrated class of pathophysiology in small and large animals aims to provide knowledges on diseases of small and large animals.
The student will achieve knowledges to evaluate clinical cases of veterinary internal medicine using a problem oriented approach. Furthermore, the student should be able and confident to use and interpret a clinical exam, clinical pathology data, and diagnostic imaging exams. The students will achieve knowledges to formulate a differential diagnosis list, an supposed diagnosis and a therapeutic approach to the patients.
Moreover, the course will provide a solid knowledge about the laws and regulations in veterinary medicine concerning forensic medicine, civil and penal responsibility in the veterinary profession and deontology.
Durante lo svolgimento del corso, la verifica dell’acquisizione delle conoscenze avverrà tramite verifiche in itinere impostate con risposte a scelta multipla o aperte e come discussione di casi clinici e tramite un esame finale.
EXAM
The student will be assessed during the course with ongoing multiple choice or open query tests, and/or the discussion of clinical cases. At the end of the course the students will be evaluated with an oral exam.
Lo studente sarà in grado di raccogliere l'anamnesi in modo dettagliato, , formulare una lista di problemi ed inquadrarli dal punto di vista patogenetico.
Per il cavallo e i ruminanti, gli studenti saranno in grado di eseguire un esame ecografico di screening toracico e addominale.
Per quanto riguarda la gestione di allevamento (ruminanti e suino), lo studente acquisirà la capacità di raccolta dei dati aziendali e l’analisi di questi, in modo da costruire un adeguato iter diagnostico di mandria al fine di formulare una diagnosi e una terapia di allevamento.
ABILITIES EVALUATION
The individualabilities of each student will be verified both in the classroom or during the training sessions during witch students will work in small groups. During these work sessions, each professor involved in the integrated course will evaluate the abilities acquired by each student. The evaluation will be carried out by direct observation of the student during the work session.
During the activities (classroom, consultation room, pigpen, barn or stable) the students will prove to the teachers the acquired abilities by collecting clinical data, expressing differential diagnosis and a diagnostic route, propose a therapy, or an the heard health program.
The students will be able to perform an ultrasound exam of thorax and abdomen in large animals and correlate the findings with clinical data. They will be able also to collect blood and urine samples, to insert IV catheters and to approch a fluid therapy.
Finally, the student will propose the managent of a barn or stall or pigpen suggesting the animal welfare approch, the food schedule, and herd health assessment.
Le capacità individuali saranno verificate sia durante le lezioni frontali che surante la didattica pratica in cui gli studenti lavoreranno in piccoli gruppi. Nel corso di queste sessioni di lavoro ogni docente di ciascun modulo, tramite l'osservazione diretta, esprimerà una valutazione sulle capacità di ciascuno studente.
Durante le attività gli studenti dovranno dimostrare le abilità acquisite.
ABILITIES EVALUATION

Lo studente sarà in grado di lavorare in gruppo e approcciarsi al paziente secondo le normative vigenti sulla sicurezza nei luoghi di lavoro e per il benessere animale.
Lo studente saprà parlare in maniera adeguata con il proprietario/allevatore e con lo staff medico. Dovrà esprimersi con chiarezza, accuratezza, empatia e sensibilità nella comunicazione anche di notizie infauste.
Lo studente, inoltre, dovrà imparare ad esprimersi in un consono linguaggio scientifico.
BEHAVIOR
The student will be able to work in team and in compliance with current rules concerning animal welfare and safety in the workplaces.
Thus, the student will have to learn haw to communicate appropriately with the owner or the breeder in collecting the data during the clinical evaluation of the patient or the heard, and to use scientific language when explaining the diagnostic route.
The student will have to learn how to interact appropriately with the owner or the breeder during the notice of an unfortunate event for the animal/heard with appropriate clarity, accuracy, empathy and sensitivity.
Durante la didattica teorica e pratica ciascun docente verificherà, mediante osservazione diretta, la correttezza delle attività pratiche svolte in aula, ambulatorio, alle scuderie o in stalla. Inoltre sarà verificata la distribuzione dei compiti all'interno di ciascun gruppo di lavoro, le relazioni tra le parti e la proprietà di linguaggio di ciascuno studente.
BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
The acquisition of the behaviors will be evaluated by direct observation of each student by the professor for each module. The student will be evaluated during his/her interaction with the patient, the owner/breeder.
During each work session, the distribution of tasks for each student within each working group, relationship between the parties and the appropriate language used by each student.
Per seguire in modo efficace il corso, lo studente deve avere sufficienti conoscenze sulla fisiopatologia delle più comuni malattie internistiche, nonché conoscenze di malattie infettive, delle lesioni anatomo-patologiche più importanti e di farmacologia.
PREREQUISITES
In order to effectively attend the course, the student should have knowledges on the physio-pathology of the most common internal medicine diseases of small and large animals, as long as knowledges on infectious and parasitological diseases, and pharmacology.

Il corso è a frequenza obbligatoria attestata mediante il recupero delle firme in aula. Gli studenti lavoratori e gli studenti con specifici problemi possono richiedere al Corso di Laurea esenzioni parziali della frequenza.
The integrated course has a mandatory attendance guaranteed by the signature of each student who attend the course.
The worker students and students with specific problems can request the partial dispensation from course attendance to the Degree Course Board.
L'esame è composto da una prova scritta e un colloquio orale.
La prova scritta consiste in domande aperte; l'esame si svolge in un'aula normale, la durata è di 2 h e può essere completato da una domanda orale. La prova scritta e orale rimane valida per un unico appello.
La prova scritta non è superata se 3/4 domande risultano con voto inferiore a 18/30.
La prova orale consiste in un colloquio tra il candidato e il docente o un codocente sulla stessa materia del modulo oggetto dell'esame.
L'esame orale non è superato se il candidato mostra di non essere stato in grado di esprimersi in modo chiaro, di usare la terminologia corretta e di non aver risposto correttamente alle domande proposte.
Le prove in itinere sono 2 per ogni corso integrato, in forma scritta a domande aperte per una durata di 2 ore. Le prove in itinere, se superate, hanno validità ai fini dell'esame, fino alla fine dello stesso anno in cui vengono sostenute.
EXAM PROCEDURE
The exam is composed of two sections: a written and an oral section. The written section is made up of 4 open questions to be done in 2 hours. The oral section is a discussion about the topics explained during each module.
The written section is failed if 3/4 questions will be evaluated with mark lower than 18/30. The oral section is failed when the student is not able to express himself/herself clearly,to use the right terminology, and to have not answered correctly to the questions asked.
There are two ongoing tests for each module performed in written form as open queries. The results of the two ongoing tests will be take into account for the formulation of the final exam mark.
