Lo studente potrà acquisire nozioni di biologia marina e conoscenze sulla storia dell'Archeologia subacquea, le caratteristiche della navigazione e del commercio antico; metodologie e tecniche di prospezione e scavo subacquei.
The student who completes the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of the sources and methodologies currently used in Underwater Archaeological research. The student will acquire the ability to classify underwater structures, sites and finds. He or she will will be able to discuss the environmental, economic and social aspects connected with ancient navigation. .
Per l'accertamento delle conoscenze saranno svolte continue attività di interazione con gli studenti nel corso delle lezioni.
- The student will be assessed on his/her demonstrated ability to discuss the main course contents using the appropriate terminology. - During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression. - The student must demonstrate the ability to put into practice and to execute, with critical awareness, the activities illustrated or carried out under the guidance of the teacher during the course.

Lo studente acquisirà capacità nel riconoscimento delle diverse tipologie delle imbarcazioni antiche, da guerra e commerciale, sulle tecniche di costruzione navale, sulle modalità della navigazione antica, e del commercio antico. Acquisirà la conoscenza delle metodologie e degli strumenti per la prospezione e scavo subacquei.
In particolare acquisirà capacità nella classificazione del vasellame ed anfore a circolazione mediterranea con cronologia III sec. a.C.-VII sec. d.C.
The students will acquire the ability to recognize the different types of ancient war and trade ships, naval construction techniques, ancient navigation procedures and trade. They will acquire knowledge of methodologies , techniques and tools for underwater surveys and excavations. In particular, they will acquire the ability to classify vessels and amphorae which circulated in the Mediterranean regions between the 3rd cent BC and the 7th cent AD.
Durante le lezioni gli studenti saranno coinvolti in operazioni di classificazione dei reperti ( in particolare anfore, vasellame)

Breve storia della disciplina. La navigazione antica. Costruzione navale e tipologia delle imbarcazioni. Porti e scali marittimi e fluviali nel Mediterraneo. Commercio marittimo e fluviale (con approfondimenti per il III sec.a.C.-VII sec.d.C.): aspetti politici, economici e sociali. Metodologie e tecniche di prospezione, scavo e relativa documentazione. Aspetti di biologia marina (argomento trattato dal Prof. F.Maltagliati, Dipartimento di Biologia, UniPi). Verranno svolte attività seminariali per la classificazioni di reperti (in particolare anfore e vasellame) presso il Cantiere e/o il museo delle Navi antiche di Pisa.
Connesso al corso è un'attività di Tirocinio facoltativa (vedi note)
A brief history of the subject. Ancient navigation. Naval construction and typologies of ships. Ports and maritime and river ports of call in the Mediterranean. Maritime and river trade with a special focus on the period between the 3rd cent BC and the 7th cent AD :political, economic and social aspects.nSurveys, excavations, documentation, Underwater structures and sites.. Submerged settlements. Aspects of Marine Biology, dealt with by Prof. F.Maltagliati, Dipartimento di Biologia, UniPI). There will be seminars about the classification of finds ( in particular amphorae and vessels)

An oral exam consisting of:
A discussion, of about 30 minutes, between the candidate and the Professor, about the topics dealt with in the course. The candidate will not pass this oral exam if he/she does not give the correct answers to important questions and repeatedly demonstrates an inability to correlate the different topics of the programme
Gli studenti interessati potranno partecipare ad un Tirocinio di 25 ore (in 4 giorni ) organizzato presso lo STAS (Servizio Tecnico Archeologia Subacquea ) della Soprintendenza Genova con i seguenti argomenti : tecniche di prospezione, rilievo e fotografia subacquei; tecniche di sicurezza nei cantieri; pratica di montaggio attrezzature subacquee; pratica di supporto alla ricerca e scavo subacqueo.
