Che cosa è l’etica applicata?
L’etica applicata è rappresentata dalla riflessione morale in relazione a contesti specifici (la cura medica, la neuroetica, le manipolazioni della vita, la comunicazione, l’economia, l’ambiente, gli animali, i generi, solo per citarne alcuni). Per la sua vocazione, che si incarna in un tanto più effettivo quanto più reale dialogo tra saperi, l’etica applicata ha il compito di coniugare la dimensione teorica con le esigenze della pratica. Nel declinare insieme eidetica e fatticità, essa è di volta in volta chiamata a superare sia l’approccio top-down sia l’approccio bottom-up, privilegiando invece una virtuosa circolarità in grado di mettere in circuito le esigenze dell’etica generale - e della fondazione ad essa connessa - con le particolari esigenze scaturenti dai contesti.

What is ‘Applied Ethics’?
Applied ethics is represented by moral reflection in relation to specific contexts (medical care, neuroethics, life manipulations, communication, economics, the environment, animals, genders, just to name a few). Because of its vocation, which is achieved through the dialogue between disciplines, applied ethics has the task of combining the theoretical dimension with the needs of practice. In declining both eidetics and facticity, it is called upon from time to time to overcome both the top-down and bottom-up approaches, favouring instead a virtuous circularity capable of putting into circulation the needs of general ethics - and of the foundation connected to it - with the particular needs arising from the contexts.
Knowledge
Students will learn basic and detailed knowledges in the field of applied ethics.

Students will be able to analyze case studies and to go back to the general rules that can guide individual cases.

Analysis and interpretation of classical texts in the field of applied ethics; analysis of case studies.
Students will be able to acquire a critical attitude towards the main topics dealt with in the course.
Critical debate during the course. One-to-one interaction during office hours and with the experts eventually invited for the course

Presentation and discussion of the main topics in the field of Applied Ethics
Introduction to the history of the discipline and to the thought of its main authors
With the clarification that all the contents of the English books will be explained during the lessons, it is mandatory to carefully study the following texts:

L’esame sarà orale. Lo studente sarà chiamato a rispondere a domande sul programma di esame da parte del docente ed eventualmente da parte di altri membri della commissione. L’esame non risulterà superato se lo studente dimostrerà nel corso del colloquio, non rispondendo alle domande o rispondendo alle domande in maniera incompleta, di non aver approfondito a sufficienza gli argomenti d’esame.
Oral exam. The student will be asked to answer questions about the program by the professor and possibly by other members of the committee. The exam will not be passed if the student proves during the interview, by not answering the questions or by answering the questions incompletely, that he/she has not sufficiently studied the exam subjects.
