Storia della Storiografia Antica
Lo studente acquisirà capacità di valutazione di un testo storiografico antico e di individuazione delle strategie politiche e culturali del suo autore. Si renderà inoltre conto di come un testo storiografico si possa adoperare ai fini della ricostruzione storica come oggi noi la pratichiamo.
At the end of the course the student will be able to read an ancient historiographical text identifying its ideological background, and its political targets. Being the teaching based on the reading of the texts in the original languages the student will improve his knowledge of them. He will also acquire a wider knowledge of the ancient world.
La verifica delle conoscenze sarà oggetto di valutazioni periodiche durante le lezioni, attraverso le quali lo studente mostrerà le sue capacità di ricerca e di esposizione.
With the oral presentation, to be made to the teacher and the other students, the student must demonstrate the ability to approach a circumscribed research problem, and organise an effective exposition of the results.
Methods:
Lo studente sarà in grado di individuare le motivazioni di diverso tipo sottese a un testo storiografico antico, e di ricostruire i diversi orizzonti epistemologici della produzione storiografica antica.
The student will be able to identify the motivations of different types underlying a historiographical text, and to reconstruct the different epistemological horizons of Greek and Roman historiographical production from the Archaic period to the Roman imperial period.
Le capacità saranno verficate tramite seminari, e le discussioni intercalate alle lezioni.
Assessment will take place through talks with the teacher and through seminars in the classroom.
Lo studente acquisirà capacità di analisi critica di un testo antico, che possono essere utili anche per un testo moderno. Tramite le discussioni, dovrebbe inoltre sviluppare le proprie capacità argomentative.
The student will acquire the ability to critically analyze an ancient text, which can also be useful for a modern text. Through discussions, the student should also develop his own argumentative skills.
I comportamenti verranno verificati tramite le discussioni svolte a lezione e attraverso i seminari, per quanto riguarda le capacità espositive.
Argumentative skills will be assessed through discussions and debates fostered in the classroom.

Knowledge of Greek history and language.
Knowledge of Roman history and Latin language.
Alle lezioni frontali, sempre seguite da discussioni, si alterneranno seminari relativi a letture di testi e a figure di storici.
Nel corso degli incontri saranno regolarmente distribuiti handouts.
Delivery: face to face
Lectures will be always followed by discussions.
Seminars will deal with interpretations of ancient texts and the personalities of ancient historians.
Handouts will be always distributed.

Si terrà inoltre un seminario sul discorso De recta civilis historiae comparandae ratione di Vito Maria Amico.

A handbook of Roman History: Eutropius's Breviarium.
A seminar will also be held on Vito Maria Amico's speech De recta civilis historiae comparandae ratione.

L'insegnamento prevede una prova finale attraverso una struttura seminariale e la partecipazione attiva degli studenti.
During the course and the final seminar activities the students will show their abilitity to discuss the essential aspects of the topics covered in class.
