At the end of the lectures, the student should be able to date, understand and edit a Greek inscription fom the Classical world.
- Per l'accertamento delle conoscenze si svolgeranno a lezione discussioni e prove in itinere su alcuni noti documenti epigrafici.
During the course, the students will be required to partecipate actively to the discussions and each students will present to the rest of the class a relevant Greek inscription.
The student will be able to analyse epigraphic sources from a historical and chronological point of view.
Practical activities will be envisaged using online databases like PHI 7 and the most well-known academic tools for bibliographical research.
The student will be able to interpret and analyze the epigraphical Greek sources.
During lectures, students' learning progress will be assessed on the basis of their intepretation of a Greek inscription and on the partecipation to the discussions.

During lectures slides will be projected, xerox will be distributed and databases will be used.
Introduzione all'epigrafia greca:
Lineamenti di storia dell'epigrafia greca (la nascita della disciplina); le più antiche iscrizioni greche; metodi editoriali e di studio delle iscrizioni greche; corpora epigrafici, strumenti bibliografici e di aggiornamento; lettura di iscrizioni di tipologia e cronologia varia (i testi saranno distribuiti in fotocopia a lezione). Paleografia ed edizione di un testo.
E' prevista come prova in itinere un seminario da parte di tutti gli studenti su testi di particolare interesse.
Introduction to Greek epigraphy (the history of the discipline); the oldest Greek inscriptions; editions and study of Greek inscriptions; epigraphical corpora, bibliographic instruments; reading of Hellenistic and Roman Greek inscriptions. Reading, translation and commentary of some Greek inscriptions. Edition of a text.

Per via della natura tecnica della disciplina e dell'esercitazione pratica che comporta, non è previsto un programma d'esame per i non frequentanti. Per sostenere l'esame è dunque necessario seguire il corso e i seminari.
Il docente è sempre disponibile per eventuali indicazioni bibliografiche via mail o durante il ricevimento.
Because of the seminar nature of the discipline, attendance of the lectures is required.
Beside the interim's checks, there will be a final oral exam. The student has to prove his ability in reading, translating and discussing a Greek inscription among those analyzed during lectures or in the selcted parts of the handbook.
