Knowledge

The student who successfully completes the course will be aware of the main analytical techniques used in environmental monitoring as regards the most common sampling techniques and the assessment of the analytical data obtained.

Assessment criteria of knowledge

- During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of expression. - With the oral presentation, to be made to the teacher and the other students, the student must demonstrate the ability to approach a circumscribed research problem, and organise an effective exposition of the results.

Syllabus

The course aims at providing a knowledge of the main pollution monitoring methodologies, in the different environmental media (air, water, soil). In this framework, it is expected to gain the knowledge, in the specificity of each environmental compartment, of the critical steps and the main methodologies for a correct execution of sampling activities (continuous or discrete), storage and sample treatment. The principle analytical techniques for the determination of priority pollutants will also be cited.
