Conoscenze

Knowledge

At the end of the course the learners will have acquired knowledge on the history of German-speaking literature from the mid-18th to the end of the 19th century and will have learned to recognize some fundamental aesthetic-literary categories for analyzing the literary text with hermeneutic sensitivity and critical awareness; in particular, they will have acquired in-depth knowledge on the literary production of the most important and representative authors of the period indicated above.

Assessment criteria of knowledge

Academic progress will be monitored and verified from the oral report, the seminar discussion, the written paper and finally the oral test.

Skills

The learner will develop sensitivity for the stylistic-literary analysis of the text and will be able to contextualize it from a historical-cultural point of view. In addition to strengthening his/her argumentative skills both in oral and written form, he/she will be able to develop the ability to work in a group thanks to cooperative learning method and to expose the results of his/her in-depth work in an organic and coherent way.

Assessment criteria of skills

The assessment of skills will take place both in itinere through an oral report and participation in the seminar discussion, and at the end of the course (written report and oral exam).

Comportamenti

Behaviors

The student will have acquired appropriate accuracy and precision in carrying out a work of linguistic-literary analysis and historical-cultural study, and will know how to orient himself/herself in scientific literature. He/She will also be able to work both in a team and by his/her own.

Assessment criteria of behaviors

Behavior will be verified from the discussion during the lessons, in dialogue with the teacher and the other students, and from the oral report and the final exam (written report and oral exam).

Prerequisiti (conoscenze iniziali)

Prerequisites

The course is aimed at students enrolled in the first year and does not include special requirements. However, students who are not familiar with historical-literary eras are strongly advised to read a historical-literary manual in advance.

Corequisiti

Co-requisites

In order to develop the linguistic skills necessary for reading the texts in the original language, the student is required to regularly attend the “lettorato” lessons. The course will also make use of the skills and knowledges that the student will acquire simultaneously in the course “German Language and Translation 1” of the CdS LIN (by Patrizio Malloggi).

Prerequisites for further study

This teaching is a strongly recommended requirement for the German Literature 2 course of the CdS LIN.

Indicazioni metodologiche

Teaching methods

The course will be divided into several modules, organized as both frontal lectures and seminars. For details see below (Syllabus).

Programma (contenuti dell'insegnamento)

A second module (25 hours), of a seminar type and based on group work led by the teacher, will focus on a selection of canonical texts, thanks to which the learners will deepen the knowledge introduced in the first module and become familiar with some fundamental aesthetic and literary categories.
