Conoscenze

Knowledge

The student will acquire knowledge on architecture and stage design from ancient times up to the scenic research of the early Twentieth century.
Given the vastness of the field, the course will analyse some issues crucial to the development of the staging: the genesis of the theatre; the "widespread theatricality" in medieval times; the theatre in the urban context; the theatrical place and the relationship between stage and architecture, the "Italian theatre" and the Baroque stagecraft; the comparison between Naturalism and Symbolism; the avant-gardes of the Twentieth century and the cooperation between artists and masters of the scene.
