Conoscenze

Knowledge

Students are expected to learn the physical methods applicable to the understanding of biological systems, and the related appropriate mathematical and statistical tools to carry out some analysis.

Assessment criteria of knowledge

The students are assessed either via two intermediate tests or a final written test (students can choose which method they prefer). During the lectures, weekly tests are proposed to the students: positive results in these weekly assessments might improve the final mark by up to 10% of the mark, in case the students opt to be assessed via the two intermediate tests

Methods:

  • Final written exam
  • Periodic Quizzes/multiple choice

L'esame e` in forma scritta

Assessment methods

Two ongoing tests or final exam

The exam is in written form

During the lectures, exercises are offered on weekly basis which, in the event of a positive evaluation, can contribute up to 10% of the final grade if the exam is passed via the ongoing tests.

The course is accredited through a multiple choice or open choice written exam. It is necessary to register for the exams. During the exam it is allowed to use the calculator, drawing and writing tools, textbooks, copy of the course transparencies, statistical tables. It is not allowed to use exercise books, summaries, or own notes. Books, transparencies, tables must be untouched (therefore, no writing: so be careful when you come up with a book borrowed, for example, from the library, because if it is "written" you will be removed from the test).

During the lectures there will also be two ongoing tests, valid for accreditation purposes, the timing of which will be specified later. First year students are admitted to the ongoing tests. Students can participate in the second ongoing test regardless of the result in the first one. The grade of the ongoing tests will be given by the average of the marks in the two ongoing tests: example: in the first ongoing test I got 10/30, I can still do the second ongoing test and if the final (average) grade is higher than 18, I still passed the exam (this means that in the second ongoing test I must reach at least the score of 25/30). WARNING: the ongoing tests are a different way to pass the exam, and the grade of the ongoing tests expires after the second ongoing test: this means that if I have a grade of 22 in the ongoing mathematics test and a grade of 10 in the ongoing physics test, failing to achieve an average of at least 18, I have to face the entire exam in the subsequent sessions.

On a weekly basis, students will also be offered exercises to be done at home, which will contribute a maximum of 10% to the final grade if they pass the exam through the ongoing tests.

It is also emphasized that taking part in an exam reset the student's previous history: in particular, it cancels any previous vote proposal.

The results of the exams will be published on exams.unipi.it, and students have 48 hours to communicate the non-acceptance of the proposed grade. After 48 hours, the proposed votes will be recorded.

Students who have to take only part of the exam (mathematics only or physics only, as the had a formal recognition by the degree program for the other part, i.e. they have an explicit resolution of the degree program council in MV that recognizes credits) must present themselves for the exam, like all other students, and will only have to solve the part of the questions relating to the missing part of the exam. They also have the right to take, in the year of first enrollment in veterinary medicine, the only ongoing test that corresponds to the missing part of the exam. Obviously students can always opt to take the full exam.
