L'interesse specifico del corso è fornire conoscenze e competenze per leggere e discutere approfonditamente saggi teorici incentrati sul rapporto tra testo drammatico ed esibizione. Agli studenti verrà chiesto di ripensare autonomamente ai contenuti del corso, riflettendo su quanto imparato a lezione. Alla fine del percorso i frequentanti saranno in grado di scrivere un paper accademico e presentare il proprio progetto ai docenti e ai colleghi di corso in modo strutturato.
Prima parte: La prima parte del corso approfondirà aspetti cruciali del rapporto tra drammaturgia e spettacolo attraverso alcune letture, analisi e visioni proposte durante le lezioni. L’obiettivo sarà fornire, attraverso casi di studio su particolari testi drammaturgici e spettacolari, gli strumenti necessari alla fruizione e alla comprensione di testi e spettacoli teatrali al fine di produrre una successiva riflessione critica.
Seconda parte: La seconda parte approfondirà l’analisi di alcuni testi teatrali e messe in scena del periodo oggetto di studio, con particolare attenzione per la relazione fra testo, spettacolo e contesto storico-culturale di riferimento. Se i numeri dei frequentanti lo permetteranno, questa parte avrà carattere eminentemente seminariale e prevederà la partecipazione attiva degli studenti.
The student who completes the course successfully will be able to read and discuss in depth theoretical essays focused on the relationship between dramatic text and performance. The students will be asked to think autonomously about the course contents, and at the end he or she will be able to write a paper and to present his/her project to the colleagues in a structured way.
First part:
The first part of the course will explore crucial aspects of the relationship between dramaturgy and entertainment through some readings proposed during the lessons. The objective will be to provide - through case studies on particular dramaturgical and spectacular texts - the necessary tools for the use and understanding of texts and theatrical performances in order to produce a subsequent critical reflection.
Second part: The second part will explore some staging of the contemporary performative panorama, with particular attention to the relationship between text, entertainment and the historical-cultural context of reference. If the numbers of those attending will allow it, this second part will also have an eminently seminar character and will provide for the active participation of students.
La verifica delle conoscenze consisterà nella valutazione degli elaborati prodotti ed esposti durante il corso.
La valutazione si baserà principalmente sulla stesura di una relazione riguardante l'analisi di un dramma (analisi drammaturgica e performativa). Ciascuno studente lavorerà al proprio elaborato durante il periodo del corso e lo esporrà alla classe nelle ultime lezioni.
The assessment will consist of an oral presentation, during the course, plus the ordinary oral exam. With the oral presentation, to be made to the teacher and the other students, the student must demonstrate the ability to approach a circumscribed research problem, and organise an effective exposition of the results. During the oral exam the student must be able to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material and be able to discuss the reading matter thoughtfully and with propriety of language.
Al termine del corso gli studenti avranno maturato capacità di produrre elaborati critici su particolari argomenti, sapendo sfruttare fonti testuali, iconografiche e performative.
Saranno anche in grado di esporre i risultati delle proprie ricerche in forma scritta e orale.
At the end of the course the students will have the ability to produce critical essays on particular topics, knowing how to exploit textual and performance sources.
They will also be able to present the results of their research in written and oral form.
La verifica delle capacità raggiunte dagli studenti sarà effettuata tramite lezioni attive e partecipate, che stimolino i frequenanti a interventi e riflessioni critiche autonome. Inoltre, gli elaborati prodotti e presentati durante e alla fine del corso saranno oggetto della valutazione delle capacità degli studenti. La valutazione, infatti, si baserà principalmente sulla stesura di una relazione riguardante l'analisi drammaturgica e performativa. Ciascun studente lavorerà al proprio elaborato durante il periodo del corso e lo porterà all'attenzione dei docenti.
Durante lo svolgimento del corso sarà concordata una bibliografia di riferimento, che non farà parte del programma richiesto per il superamento dell’esame.
The assessment of the skills achieved by the students will be carried out through active and participatory lessons, which stimulate the attendants to autonomous interventions and critical reflections. The works produced and presented during and at the end of the course will be evaluated. In fact, the evaluation will be based mainly on the drafting of a report on dramaturgical and performative analysis. Each student will work on their work during the course period and will expose it to the class in the last lessons.
During the course, only a reference bibliography will be provided, which will not be part of the program required for passing the exam.
Saranno acquisite accuratezza e precisione nello svolgere attività di raccolta e analisi di dati e fonti per la lettura critica di testi e spettacoli teatrali. Attraverso la modalità seminariale si perseguono anche comportamenti idonei a lavorare in gruppo.
Accuracy and precision will be acquired in carrying out data collection and analysis for the critical reading of a theatrical performance. Through the seminar mode, behaviors suitable for working in groups are also pursued.
In seguito alle attività seminariali saranno richieste agli studenti relazioni concernenti gli argomenti trattati; perciò durante il lavoro di gruppo saranno verificate le modalità di definizione delle responsabilità, di gestione e organizzazione delle fasi progettuali del lavoro individuale e collettivo.
Following the seminar activities, students will be asked to report on the topics covered; therefore during the group work the methods of definition of responsibilities, of management and organization of the planning phases of individual and collective work are verified.
Non sono richiesti prerequisiti. E’ comunque consigliabile frequentare il corso con una conoscenza di base della storia del teatro. A questo proposito si consiglia di integrare lo studio con un manuale di storia del teatro, per esempio Vito Di Bernardi e Carlo Susa, Storia essenziale del teatro, Utet.
No prerequisites are required. It is however advisable to attend the course with a solid knowledge of the history of the theater. In this regard it is advisable to integrate the study with a manual of history of the theater, for example Vito Di Bernardi and Carlo Susa, Storia essenziale del teatro, Utet.

The main course contents refers to the problems concerning the theatrical communication, both from a semiotic and technical point of view. Special attention will be paid to themes such as the structure of dramatic text and the transfer from creation to production, i.e. from the drama to the relative staging. The second part of the course will provide and refine the methods useful to look critically at performances in order to produce a subsequent critical reflection in form of review or short essays.

La relazione andrà inviata in pdf (o word) ai docenti via mail (eva.marinai@unipi.it e carlo.titomanlio@unipi.it) almeno dieci giorni prima dell'appello d'esame in cui si intende presentarsi. Non-attending students, therefore, must:
Choose a drama agreed with the teacher, and elaborate a written short essay (between the 20 thousand and 30 thousand characters, including spaces, and apparatus - notes and bibliography - included), which takes into account the analysis scheme (Guide for the analysis of the theatrical text) published on Moodle.
The report will be sent in pdf (or word) to the teacher by e-mail at least ten days before the exam session in which one intend to have the exam. Aid to the dramaturgical analysis can also be provided by: -Concetta d’Angeli, Forme della drammaturgia, UTET, Torino 2007
Non-attending students, in addition to writing the report, have to study the following texts:

-Annamaria Cascetta, La tragedia nel teatro del Novecento, Roma, Laterza, 2009.
La prova finale consisterà principalmente nella valutazione di una relazione scritta e sulla frequenza alle lezioni. La relazione avrà per oggetto un testo teatrale concordato con i docenti. Dovrà avre una lunghezza tra le 20mila e le 30mila battute (spazi e apparati - note e bibliografia - inclusi), e tenere conto dello schema di analisi (Guida per l’analisi del testo teatrale) pubblicato su Moodle.
Dato il carattere seminariale del corso, che implica frequenti interazioni tra studenti e docenti e, come si è detto, l'elaborazione di una relazione scritta, l’esame orale per i frequentanti consisterà unicamente in un breve colloquio sui temi del corso e sui testi critici proposti in lettura.
I NON frequentanti riferiranno invece sulla relazione (presentata via mail ai docenti del corso almeno dieci giorni prima dell'appello d'esame in cui intendono presentarsi) e sui testi indicati, come spiegato nelle "Indicazioni per i non frequentanti".

Given the strongly seminar character of the course, which implies the two relationships mentioned above, the oral examination for attending students will consist only in a brief interview on the four selected dramatic texts (regarding the structure of the text as well as its historical context), and on essey's texts proposed for reading.
Non-attending students will report on the report and on the volume indicated above.
