Conoscenze

Knowledge

The course aims at providing the necessary knowledge and suitable techniques to adequately deal with the
disciplines in the areas of the courses belonging to the Department of Economics and Management.

Assessment criteria of knowledge

The student's knowledge will be verified by carrying out written and an oral tests.

Skills

At the end of the course the student have to master the mathematical concepts presented during teh lessions. This competence will be useful in understanding the contents of subsequent courses, with particular reference to those in the economic and financial areas. In detail, the student must be able to

  • solve exercises related to real functions of one real variable, series, sequences and integrals calculus
  • enunciate and discuss the main results presented in the course
  • outline the relationship between theory and exercises
  • identify the mathematical aspects underlying various economic models

Assessment criteria of skills

During the written test, the student will have to appropriately solve the given exercises. The ability to apply theoretical results to solve exercises will be subject to specific evaluation. In addition, within the oral examination, the student must state and discuss the main results using an appropriate mathematical terminology.

Comportamenti

Behaviors

At the end of the course, the student will broaden his skills in understanding, formalizing and solving problems by means of the mathematical language.

Assessment criteria of behaviors

During the exam, the student will demonstrate his skills to apply the mathematical concepts he has learned in the course.

Prerequisiti (conoscenze iniziali)

Equazioni e disequazioni di primo e secondo grado. Generalità sui polinomi, frazioni algebriche tra polinomi.

Prerequisites

Equations and inequalities of I and II degree. Generalities on polynomials, algebric fractions of polynomials.

Indicazioni metodologiche

Teaching methods

Teaching method: lectures (attendance is strongly recommended).

Assessment methods

The exam consists of a written and an oral test. The written test, lasting 2 hours, consists in carrying out exercises on the topics of the course (that is one-variable functions, series, sequences and integrals). The written test is sufficient if the student reaches a total score of 18, which is necessary to be admitted to the oral examination. The oral exam must be held in the same round as the written test. The oral exam is considered sufficient only if the student has mastered the contents of the course, enunciates and correctly demonstrates a theorem chosen by the instructure, among those scheduled and explicitly demonstrated during the lessons.
