In fase preliminare lo studente acquisirà conoscenze di base per quanto riguarda la periodizzazione della letteratura tedesca. Nello specifico, il corso offre una panoramica della cultura letteraria dell’Ottocento attraverso l’analisi delle forme narrative prevalenti nel corso del secolo. I testi in programma verranno esaminati e commentati puntualmente. Una scelta di passi in lingua originale sarà oggetto di lettura guidata.
In the preliminary phase the student will acquire basic knowledge regarding the periodization of German literature. Specifically, the
course offers an overview of nineteenth-century literary culture through the analysis of the narrative forms prevailing throughout the century. The lyrics
in the programme will be examined and commented on time. A choice of steps in the original language will be the subject of a guided reading.
La verifica delle conoscenze avverrà attraverso prove scritte in itinere ed esame orale finale.
The verification of knowledge will take place through in itinere written tests and a final oral exam.
Lo studente sarà in grado di analizzare e commentare i testi narrativi oggetto del corso. Sarà inoltre in grado di orientarsi nel testo in lingua originale, sotto la guida della docente e con il sussidio delle traduzioni italiane. Sarà inoltre in grado di collocare le opere studiate nel contesto storico-culturale dell’epoca.
The student will be able to analyze and comment on the narrative texts covered by the course. S/he will also be able to orient him/herself in the text in original language
, under the guidance of the Professor and with the aid of Italian translations. S/he will also be able to place the works studied in its historical and cultural context.

Lo studente deve essere in grado di analizzare in autonomia testi letterari dell’epoca letteraria su cui il corso si incentra. Deve anche dimostrare di sapersi orientare nella letteratura critica.
The student must be able to independently analyze literary texts of the literary age on which the course focuses. S/he must also demonstrate
to know how to orient him/herself in critical literature.

Lezioni frontali con discussione finale. Dal momento che la lezione verte principalmente sui testi, se ne richiede la lettura preliminare. E’ previsto l’impiego di materiale didattico in formato cartaceo, che verrà fornito dalla docente. Ulteriori materiali saranno pubblicati in rete. Sono previste prove intermedie.
Lectures with final discussion. Since the course focuses mainly on texts, a preliminary reading is required.The use of teaching material in paper format is also envisaged, and will be provided by the professor. Further materials will be published on the web. Intermediate tests will be scheduled.
La novella dell’Ottocento
La prosa breve rappresenta una delle espressioni più significative della letteratura dell’Ottocento tedesco. Nel periodo che va dalla Restaurazione fino alla fondazione del II Reich (dal 1815 fino agli anni Settanta) scrittori fra i più eminenti sperimentano modelli narrativi che variamente combinano realismo e sguardo visionario, in una molteplicità di forme che vanno dalla novella al resoconto di viaggio, dall’aneddoto al bozzetto di vita campagnola.
The nineteenth-century novel
Short prose is one of the most significant expressions of German literature in the nineteenth century. In the period from
Restoration until the foundation of the Second Reich (from 1815 to the seventies) writers experiment narrative models that
combine realism and visionary aspects, in a variety of forms ranging from the novel to travel report, from anecdote
to the sketch of country life.

Il programma è lo stesso per frequentanti e non frequentanti. Gli studenti non frequentanti sono invitati a rivolgersi alla docente per verificare le modalità di preparazione dell’esame e per integrare la lista di letture critiche, se necessario.
The programme is the same for attending and non-attending students. Non-attending students are invited to contact the professor to verify the
preparation of the exam and to supplement the list of critical readings, if necessary.
Prove scritte in itinere ed esame orale a conclusione del corso. Le prove scritte consisteranno nel riassunto e nel commento di un testo fra quelli trattati a lezione. L’esame orale consisterà in un colloquio mirato ad accertare le capacità di lettura e di analisi critica dei testi letterari trattati e le conoscenze di storia letteraria del periodo oggetto di studio. Sarà necessario sapersi orientare anche in brevi estratti in lingua originale. L’elenco dei passi in originale verrà fornito dalla docente e pubblicato online insieme ai materiali didattici.
In itinere written tests and oral exam at the end of the course. The written tests will consist of the summary and the commentary of a text among thosewhich will be dealt with in class. The oral examination will consist of an interview aimed at assessing the reading and critical analysis skills of the literary texts tackled and the
knowledge of literary history of the period under study. It will be necessary to know how to contextualise short extracts in the original language.
The list of original steps will be provided by the professor and published online together with the teaching materials.
