Alla fine del corso, che ha un carattere di laboratorio, lo studente acquisirà la capacità di leggere e interpretare un'iscrizione latina, e anche di comporne una di tipo semplice.
Acquisirà inoltre il possesso di uno strumento fondamentale per lo studio della storia romana.
At the end of the course (of the laboratory type) the student will be able to read and interpret a Latin inscription, and perhaps also to write an easy one.
The student will also acquire a fundamental instrument for the study of Roman history.
Le conoscenze saranno verificate nel corso delle lezioni tramite la richiesta di tradurre e interpretare alcune iscrizioni, o anche di scriverne qualcuna sulla base di esempi forniti.
During lectures knowledge will be assessed through the request of translating and interpreting an inscription, and also of writing an elementary one on the basis of a set of examples.
Lo studente acquisirà capacità di funzionalizzare le iscrizioni allo studio della storia romana.

At the end of the course the student will be able to make use of inscriptions for the study of Roman history.
The student will be able to carry out a detailed analysis of a Latin text.
Lo studente dovrà tradurre e commentare un'iscrizione latina mostrando un'ottima conoscenza della lingua in cui è stata scritta e capacità di inserirla nel suo contesto storico.
The student must be able to translate and comment a Latin inscription showing a very good knowledge of the Latin language, and the capabiity to insert the Latin inscription itself in its historical context.
Lo studente acquisirà capacità di lavorare in gruppo e svilupperà in tal modo anche capacità argomentative.
The student will acquire capability to carry out teamwork, and develop argumentative ability.
Oggetto di verifica saranno soprattutto le capacità di rapportarsi e di interagire con il gruppo, e le capacità analitiche di fronte a un documento antico.
The ability to carry out teamwork, and analytical skills in dealing with an ancient text will be the main elements of assessment.
E' indispensabile un'ottima conoscenza della lingua latina.
E' anche necessaria una conoscenza generale della storia romana.
It is fundamental a very good knowledge of the Latin Language.
It is also of great importance a good general knowledge of Roman history.
La lezione avrà forma di laboratorio incentrata sulla lettura, sulla traduzione e sul commento di un'iscrizione latina.
Saranno distribuiti handouts con testi originali.
Alle lezioni-laboratorio si intercaleranno i seminari tenuti dagli studenti.
The lecture will be of the laboratory type based on the reading, translation and commentary of a Latin inscription.
Handouts with chosen texts will be distributed.
Seminars given by students will also be held.

Dato che si tratta di un corso laboratorio in cui la valutazione si svolge essenzialmente in itinere, di principio non sono previsti non frequentanti. In casi particolari si può contattare il docente in modo da definire un percorso individualizzato.
Given the character of the course (laboratory) non-attending students are not expected. In very special cases students can contact the teacher in order to define an individual programme.
L'esame è costituto da una prova scritta e da una prova orale.
La prova scritta è costituita da un testo contenente l'esposizione (traduzione, interpretazione, commento puntuale) di un'iscrizione latina scelta in collaborazione con il docente.
La prova orale sarà costituita dalla discussione del testo scritto, completata da alcune domande sugli argomenti del corso.
The exam is constituted by a written and an oral part.
The written part is represented by the exposition (translation, interpretation, commentary) of a Latin inscription chosen in collaboration with the teacher.
The oral part is represented by the discussion of the written text, supplemented by some questions on the topics dealt with in the course.
