Syllabus

Style and stylistics

The term "style" covers a wide range of uses of the language. The decisive basis is an existing choice of linguistic means. The selection depends on the type of text and the function of the text. The ways in which linguistic means are used in a particular area of communication correspond to characteristic social functions that have changed historically. In the course different functional styles are compared: Style of scientific language, journalism and press, institutional traffic (official style), everyday speech, etc.The phenomena will be presented in the area of the large group "everyday texts" and compared exemplarily with "parallel" occurrences in literary texts.
