Conoscenze

Knowledge

Knowledge of Book IV of the Aeneid is also important for the student of Latin literature when thinking about future high school teaching. In this perspective, training in stylistic analysis is central to the in-depth appreciation of Virgil's work and is essential for a sensitive reading of poetic values. Naturally, studying Virgil's style also has positive repercussions on the study of many other Latin poets.

Assessment criteria of knowledge

Given the seminar nature of the course, the knowledge acquired by the student will be ascertained through the seminar report itself carried out by each attending student, through the constant solicitation to intervene in the discussion on specific topics proposed by the various reports and through collective discussions on method problems proposed by the teacher.

Skills

Attending students will have to practice stylistic analysis: vocabulary, syntax, metrics, forms, themes and motifs of the genre. They will have to learn to comment on a poetic text, translate it and interpret it; they will have to demonstrate that they are able to develop a scientifically coherent argument before an audience and to know how to respond to objections and critical remarks, and also to know how to use and discern the bibliography on individual topics correctly.

Assessment criteria of skills

Skills will be assessed in the same ways that knowledge occurs.

Comportamenti

Behaviors

The dialogic and critical nature of the course will generally allow the attending student to deal with the stylistic analysis of poetic texts also different from the Virgilian text. It will also prepare him to organize autonomous lessons or research at least at a good level.

Assessment criteria of behaviors

The verification will be ensured through the preparation of one's own reports (which in a first phase will take place under the direct guidance of the teacher) and through collective discussion.
